Finnboat's Boat Trader of the Year hails from Helsinki

Waltic rented a plot of land on Veneentekijäntie in the Helsinki suburb of Lauttasaari where the company first built a boathouse and then an office. Subsequently, they built better premises. Only at a later stage did Helsingfors Segelklubb (Helsinki Yacht Club) and Maritim move to the neighbourhood. Waltic was the first to arrive in Lauttasaari's eastern shore which has gradually been developed into a boating centre proper.

Waltic's operations on Veneentekijantie comprised winter docking and the associated boat repairs, engine maintenance and inboard engine installations. The company also sold wooden boats manufactured by small boatyards in Tammisaari, Inkoo and Pellinki.

At the end of the seventies, Waltic moved to Suolakivenkatu in Herttoniemi harbour. In 2004, they moved to new premises just a stone's throw away on Simppukarinkatu. At the same time operations were expanded.

Currently, Waltic functions as a full-service boat centre. In addition to boat equipment and winter storage, the company's range of services include the sale of Yamarin, Terhi and Anytec boats as well as Yamaha engines. For winter storage purposes, Waltic imports and sells boat cradles and trestles for protective covers supplied by Sweden-based company AB L Press and Son. Waltic also acts as the authorised agent in the service and maintenance of Yamaha and Wallas products as well as a supplier of related spare parts.

Now for the eighth time, the Boat Trader of the Year award, which is granted by the Finnish Marine Industries Federation Finnboat ry, will be presented by the executive committee of Marine Industry Traders ry. The award is granted to particularly deserving boat retailers, equipment traders or boat agencies who operate on the domestic market. In choosing the recipient of the award, special attention is paid to the merits of the enterprise with respect to its handling of customer relations, the development of its premises and business operations, and to how it upholds the good standing of the marine industry. Special attention is also paid to the length of time the enterprise has been operating in the marine industry as well as its active participation in organising and developing the industry.
