NON-TOXIC NEPTUNE FORMULA HULL PAINT VOTED THE BEST BOATING SUPPLY OF 2009
Visitors to the Helsinki International Boat Show, which is currently being held at the Helsinki Exhibition & Convention Centre, were for the first time asked to vote for the Best Boating Supply of the Year award. The public voted most enthusiastically for a non-toxic hull paint as well as for a rescue suit for kids and a man overboard alarm system.
The ten products shortlisted for the Best Boating Supply of 2009 public vote were chosen by a jury panel made up of independent experts of the industry. The products were on display for eight days during the 2009 Helsinki International Boat Show on 6-13 February. Visitors to the exhibition were asked to vote to choose the winner.
The winning product was Neptune Formula, a hull paint that contains no heavy metals or toxins. In addition to boats, this product protects nature, and is therefore suitable for use on boats that travel at a speed of less than 35 knots in the Baltic Sea as well as in inland waters. About one in five of the total 1,156 respondents cast their vote for Neptune Formula.
Honorary mentions were handed out to two products that enhance the safety of boating: the Ursuk children's rescue suit and the Raymarine Wireless Man Overboard System. The rescue suit is made with extremely light, breathable and waterproof Gore-Tex fabric. It is worn between a layer of underwear and the outer garments, allowing plenty of room for play. The suit is available in the following sizes: 100-120 cm, 120-140 cm and 140-160 cm.
Raymarine's Man Overboard alarm system is intended for use on small vessels. A wrist tag is attached to crew members and passengers, and if one of them goes more than 9 metres away from the system's base station, a sound alarm will be triggered.
