Turnover from trading on the domestic market fell to EUR 104,1 million by the close of 2012 (-20,7 %). Based on wholesale delivery statistics, the breakdown for small craft and motorboats was as follows (unit sales):

below 6 meters 8289 (+9 %)
6-8 m 568 (-15 %)
8-10 m 54 (-36 %)

Statistics were supplied by Finnboat's small craft and motorboat enterprises.

The total number of sailboats registered in Finland (i.e. boats over 20 feet) year 2012 comprised 79, i.e. 14 % fewer than for 2011. Imported boats continue to dominate the market for sailboats with a share of 93 %. Most boats sold were in the size class 34-40 ft.

In 2012, altogether 3926 boats (-13,4 %)(i.e. those fitted with over 20 hp engines or are more than 5,5m long) were recorded in the official boat register which is maintained by public registrars nationwide.

Based on data supplied by Finnboat enterprises, the invoicing value of exports for 2012 was EUR 178,7 million, a decrease of 2,9 % compared with 2011. The share of exports from the Finnish marine industry's total output in 2012 increased slightly to 71,3 %. Of the 2012 export billing, the sailboat share was 35,7 %.

Customs' statistics for 2012 are available for the January-October period only and therefore the actual number of boats transhipped across the border is not yet known for the year as a whole. Figures for the January - October period indicate that the top ten export destinations were as follows:

Boat imports

Customs' statistics for boat imports are available only for the same January-October period. The value of imports for the period in question was EUR 32 million (-15,8 %). Wholesale deliveries of outboard engines

Altogether, 26746 outboard engines were delivered from Finnish importers in 2012 (-24,6 %). Of these, 16180 were supplied to the domestic market (Finnish importers continue to re-export engines to eg. Russia and the Baltic States). This represents a decrease of 8,2 % compared with the previous year. There have been no significant changes in the distribution among the various size classes. The largest class is made up of engines below 15 hp, representing more than 60 % of the total.

When outboard engine sales are broken down by economic region, the Province of Uusimaa (incl. Helsinki) is once again the largest (2679) followed by Varsinais-Suomi (1803) and Etelä-Karjala (1684). The smallest region was Keski-Pohjanmaa (75).
