Boat sales were good at Helsinki International Boat Show

The Helsinki International Boat Show, Vene 17 Båt, is the biggest boating event in Northern Europe. The 10 day event closed its doors on Sunday and gathered over 71,000 visitors to Messukeskus Helsinki. Visitors were satisfied with the event and exhibitors were satisfied with sales.

The event presented 390 exhibitors and 532 boats. The exhibition space occupied was 25,000 square meters. This time the event offered over 500 different presentations and demos, i.e. more programme than ever before.

New taxation on boats suggested by the Finnish Government was discussed in detail when the event opened its doors. To everybody's surprise and delight it was announced on Wednesday that the new tax is revoked.

Jarkko Pajusalo, the new CEO of the Finnish Marine Industries Federation Finnboat, was satisfied with the event. "The atmosphere was great and very positive. After having discussions with numerous exhibitors the general feel is that more boats were sold this year than last year. Naturally more deals are closed in the next couple of weeks after which we know the actual results. In addition to boats, plenty of boating accessories and gear were also sold. Now it is time to thank everybody and collect feedback from the exhibitors and visitors so that the event can be developed further. The next event will of course be even better", summarises Pajusalo.

Satisfied visitors will attend also next time

Kantar TNS conducts a visitor survey each year at the Helsinki International Boat Show and interviews 300 visitors. This year 94 % were satisfied with the event and 90 % will most likely visit also next year. Visitors were most interested to see motorboats (62 %) and boating accessories and gear (46 %). 27 % were also interested in fishing equipment. Most of the visitors use motorboats but 15 % prefer sailing. The Helsinki International Boat Show gathers visitors from the entire Finland since as many as 51 % reported to live outside the Helsinki metropolitan area.
