Dear Colleagues,

A few minutes ago, the European Commission issued an announcement on the US steel and aluminium tariffs and EU’s retaliation tariffs. Most importantly, the 1 June tariff increase will not take place (i.e. no new tariffs for boats exported into the EU from US, nor doubling of existing tariffs).

Below the key elements of the decision:

1. EU retaliatory tariffs will not be increased from 1 June and remain unchanged.

2. The EU and US will start a dialogue on global steel overcapacity and negotiations will take place on removing the tariffs on both sides in full, which are planned to be finalised before the end of the year.

The full announcement can be found here:

We will keep you posted and continue our lobbying with the European Commission on the issue and close coordination with NMMA and ICOMIA. Please do let us know in case you have any questions.

Best regards,

Philip Easthill
